Perhaps that dates all the way back to when we were kiddos. It only stands to reason, when added to your amazing recovery, you had a bit of euphoria added to your expectations. To have all of that energy stopped (temporarily but harshly) by that infection must have been a HUGE feeling of inertia. It makes sense to me, and I hope that you get a bit of a do-over with the family when you are stronger.
