Call me controversial

I am thirty minutes in to the movie Mamma Mia, and I am wondering.... will it get better? Is it me? Am I a total misery?
I usually love musicals- but this one is leaving me rather stone cold at the moment.
I know it has been out for ages and even longer- it always takes me an age to catch up with movies ( if at all.....).
How long do I have to give it before I can give up?

( ps- I have no objection to ABBA songs, some are really good. Not a hard core fan admittedly but the music isn't the issue....).

Unfortunately, the plot will NOT get any better. And you'd be better off to fast-forward when Meryl sings. Or Pierce. But the scenery is great!

ehehehe - I was the same - about 20 nurses told me it was brilliant - and another 10 friends..so I bought the DVD. Oops! Mistake! Horrendous - I really didn't like the film at all...

I loved it, but i saw it at the cinema with some friends, (I'm normally like you btw, 3 years behind), I rarely go to the pictures.

Sorry, I haven't seen Mama Mia, but some friends that saw it raved about it. I just haven't had the inclination to check my Pay per View, to see if they have it. I would rather be out doing something else, than sitting and watching a movie, at this time of the year. Maybe in the winter, I might be more inclined to do so.

Perhaps you got to like better later, after you saw more of it. Have a great Tuesday.

Hugs,

Renie

Funny you mention this...the girls and I adore this movie and I usually HATE musicals. We end up watching this over and over...perhaps we love abba a bit much in this house?? :)

Noooo don't give up yet. There will soon be half naked men singing ABBA songs while dancing around in flippers. Don't give up yet.

And ok yes, I am a little biased as someone who fell asleep to Abba as a child on long road trips, but I'm pretty sure the reason for your musical discontent is named Piers Brosnan. SOS is a fantastic song! totally butchered. Meryl would've been better off without him.

Bragger- the scenery is the only reason I have kept in on as long to be honest.
L'optimiste- I think I am going to stay firmly in your camp.
Renie- like you I would be rather out doing stuff than watching movies, especially this one.

Suz, TMMB and Eliza- sorry. I have tried another twenty minutes and the dancing queen scene has finished me off.

I think one problem is Colin and Pierce B are not my cup of tea.I prefer the big nordic blond type. What persuaded any of them to do it??? Especially Meryl Streep...

I found it funny, if you can look past the dire plot, the crap singing and just enjoy the scenery but paying to see it or buying the dvd I don't think so...

shame as the cast was a good bunch, what they needed was good voices to give it some savings.

I will have to call you controversial ;) - I loved Mamma Mia - but I do apreciate it's not for everyone! I just found it simple, uplifting and a 'feelgood movie' a welcome break from the seriousness of life.

Scenery is Top, eh? I must say I loved the whole thing but saw it with a host of girlie friends, and I think we would have enjoyed seeing paint dry that night!
