A word of warning to all bloggers

I got a message today to tell me that I have infringed copyright and some material on my blog has been removed.

Panic.

I looked carefully within all the small print to find out what the offending article or articles are. It turns out it was a picture of McDonald's Golden Arches back in September.

The small print in the email told me that if I infringe again my blog will be deleted. Eeks.

So if I vanish, you will all know why.

Like many bloggers I suspect, I use bits and bobs from google images to spice up my blog a little. With a small and bijoux readership I didnt think anyone would get excited about it. But they have.

Oops.

So from now on I will use my own images to be on the safe side....

Comments folks? Anything like this happen to you?

Wow!!! I Google for images too as well as using my own. You would think they would look on it as free advertising wouldn't you? I suppose we had better all confer and throw some ideas in the pot and see to what degree this is enforced.
So come on all you that read Life in Windermere, what are your thoughts on this?

Oh, my, really? We don't want you to vanish from blogland, Jo!

I never use images that are not my own.

Have a great day!

I have not heard of this myself...I would think they would like more publicity. I will be careful though. Thanks for the warning.

I thought I had left a relevant comment this morning, but it must be lost in cyber-space... or the gremlins have already struck. I have come back to your post to see if anyone else has posted in response to your dilemma .
I'll say no more now and hope to drop by later.

Nothing like that has ever happened to me... I usually only use personal pics or i use clip art images...I try not to grab any kind of icons or emblems... never heard of this, but thank you for the warning.

Hope all is well with you and that you don't get deleted! LOL

I suppose it keeps someone in a job. Can you imagine looking through blogs all day for a living?

So if we can infringe copywrite how come Google isn't by publicly showing the images in the first place?

Are they saying that if you take a picture infront of Starbucks or McD's while on holiday, that's doi ng the same?

they need to get a life.

I have found that homemade is best even if it does not look so professional.

I am thinking along the lines of Tismee2. about this thing. I'm glad my comments found their destination anyway.
I have put a few probes out, so I hope to get some more views.

At least they gave you a warning. Trouble is, some of them aren't copyrighted and it's hard to know which ones.
I had to remove one of my first ever blogs because I quoted a Wendy Cope poem about missing socks. Turns out she hates that with a passion even tho' i thought I was just spreading the word.

I'm with Granny on the Web, they should look on it as free advertising. I use them all the time, I get them from Photobucket, don't know if they have any rule about using them, guess I better check it out. Have a terrific week-end.

Like you, I often crib images off the web, I suppose I'd better quit before I get my wrists slapped.
